BOUNCERS + SWINGS
Thanks to Dr. Harvey Karp and his book, Happiest Baby on the Block, you should know by now that newborns are soothed by the 5 "S's": swaddling, side or stomach position, sushing, swinging and sucking. Bouncers address the "swinging" motion, so that mom can take a break from swaying or rocking baby. With your baby in a bouncer, you are free to make dinner, take a shower, take a nap, you name it. But let's be real, bouncers are awesome - so long as you have the right one and baby's have strong preferences towards their bouncers. C+I recommend keeping the tag on to ensure baby is 100% satisfied, otherwise return and try option #2.

BABY LOUNGERS + SEATS
Plain and simple, babies are difficult to tote around 24/7, which is why purchasing a few good "baby loungers" is necessary. The following are some of our favorites loungers that'll help give mamas a hand, while also providing a stimulating environment for baby.

ACTIVITY GYMS + PLAY MATS
Once again, another toy that occupies baby from birth until about six months of age. At first, baby will mostly just lay there in awe of the hanging toys above. Soon, you will notice baby begin to develop motor skills and hit or kick the hanging toys above. This is not only fun for baby, but also frees up some time for mama.

INFANT BOOKS
Similar as they do with toys, infants will likely not have a strong attention span to read books on end in the first several weeks - despite your desire to start reading him/her stories. However, infants do enjoy interactive soft books that activate the senses. There are several different brands of soft books to choose from, C+I has selected our favorites below.

3 TO 6 + MONTH TOYS
By 3 to 6 months of age, baby is starting to become interested in the idea of toys. Baby's dexterity and hand/eye coordination is strengthening, and he/she is beginning to crave more and more play things that activate the senses. This includes toys that create sounds or have a cause and effect notion to them - i.e. if baby pushes a button, a sound will play. Teething toys can also be introduced around this time as baby welcomes those little chompers.

3 TO 6 MONTH BOOKS
Around three to six months, single subject board books will peek baby's interest. As baby begins to associate objects in the world, touch and feel books are a must for helping baby learn his/her first words. In addition, finger puppet books will excite baby as he/she seeks to figure out the magic behind them.

6 MONTH + TOYS
As baby reaches the six to nine month mark, he/she will be on the move. From crawling to surfing and maybe even to walking, your little tyke will not want to sit still. Toys that allow baby to get up, get out and get going are encouraged at this time. Sensory development continues to be important as does cause and effect toys and toys that allow for creativity. Sometimes searching no farther than your kitchen cabinet (pots and pans anyone?) will help satisfy baby's curiosity.

6 TO 9 MONTH BOOKS
Baby's comprehension is growing and that means he/she is craving more and more information about the things around her. Books that feature a sing-along type rhythm are great around six to nine months, including Sandra Boynton books and nursery rhymes. Continue intermixing touch and feel books, as these still interest baby.
|
9 TO 12 MONTH TOYS
Baby is now starting to master hand-eye coordination in his/her own way. Therefore, action-oriented toys that offer fun rewards will keep baby occupied. Baby is developing cognitively, physically, socially and emotionally. Toys that can tap into these aspects of development are key.
