Rug | Linen Sofa | Side Chair | Ottoman | Coffee Table | Chinese Credenza (one-of-a-kind) | Side Table | Floor Lamp | Table Lamp | Pendant Light | Decorative Pillows | Log Vase Okay all... so one of my many passions among other things is decorating and designing our new home! If you know me, you know that if I'm given a project (whether it's wedding planning, nursery planning, you name it), I will go 110% all out. Since given the task of decorating a new home, I have invested tons of my time (when Lincoln is napping) into space planning and decorating our home in Nashville. I have studied interior designer blogs and Instagram profiles, and have followed design trends in order to figure out what style suits me the best. I have come to realize that my decorating style is a combination of traditional, transitional with a slight tinge of mid-century modern thrown in there. I also love rustic elements, including lots of wood elements and tons of Restoration Hardware pieces :) Some of the top design blogs that I have come across include Studio McGee (my absolute favorite), Becki Owens, Kathy Nutt Design, and Blackband Design. There are several more designers that I have gotten inspiration from, but these four are my go-to's.
The above photo is a design I created for our sitting room. I tend to only go with neutral colors because I think they are timeless and you don't tire of them easily, but with this house, I decided to take a leap of faith. We had a few of the prieces of furniture in the photo above already, including the Belgian Linen Sofa for Restoration, the coffee table (which is actually our dining room table that I am coverting to a coffee table because it is too pretty to part with), and the Chinese credenza - which is a one-of-a-kind piece that my mother-in-law (a very design savvy woman) got us as a house-warmning gift. These pieces set the base for our house in which I built off of. I then found inspiration from a home that Studio McGee designed - you can check it out here. I literally swoon every time I paruse through her portfolio of work. The Rangeview Reno and Modern Mountain Home projects are my favorite. Her shop is also where I have selected several of my furniture pieces from - and is oh-so-cute. I could literally furnish my entire home with items from her shop. Anyways, back to my love for the Rangeview Reno project done by Studio McGee, I instantly fell in love with the Palisades rug in the living room, which Studio McGee sells in her shop. I purchased the rug on a Cyber Monday sale for about $1,500 and this gave me a great palette and baseline to work with in addition to the furniture we already owned. I knew I wanted a grey leather chair to compliment the colors in the rug and also to offset the warm tones of the sand-colored linen sofa. I searched high and low to find the right grey leather chairs that were a fair pricepoint. I did fall in love with some from Gabby Home, only to find out that they cost $2,400 each!! Needless to say, this was far out of my budget (I have all of our furniture in every room budgeted out). Yesterday, I recieved an email that Anthropologie Home was having a 20% off sale and decided to check out their side chairs to see if they had any that would suit our family room. Low and behold, I found the perfect tufted leather chair (see photo). I purchased two - and they were a fair price on sale at around $1,500 each. I also bought the cute little ottoman to add a fun pop of pattern to the room. All of the other elements play off of these pieces. The room is a combination of traditional and modern furniture with rustic and bohemian tones. I also love mixing bronzes with silvers to add to that look. Anyways, this is our family room so far! Can't wait to show you all the final outcome and also to share more rooms to come. xx, ILA
